The Word of God is clear on two fundamental truths: God is holy and we are sinners.
If the triune God is holy and you are sinful, how can you have a relationship with him? How can you be saved from his just punishment for your sin?
Scripture teaches that you can't save yourself. You can't be good enough. You can't do enough good works to earn a pardon for your crimes against him.
In other words, you can't save yourself.
The good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is that he can save you. What you can't do for yourself, he can accomplish.
King David writes, "Salvation belongs to the LORD; your blessing be on your people!" (Psalm 3.8).
Salvation is God's work, not your work. You are called to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Believe that he is able to save you from sin and death.
Without Christ there is no peace, but with him there is the promise of eternal peace. The Reformer John Calvin wrote, "There is no true or solid peace to be enjoyed in the world except in the way of reposing on the promises of God."
You can't save yourself. That's God's work. But you can place your faith in him and rest upon his promise to redeem you and give you eternal life.
