Psalm 3 describes King David's prayer to the Lord during a painful chapter of life.

His son, Absalom, is leading a political rebellion against King David and the king is fleeing Jerusalem for his life.

During the days of King David, rulers were not voted out. There was no Brexit. There were no run-off elections.

Rulers changed at the edge of the sword. King's lost their throne when they lost their life.

So King David flees for his life. Absalom is leading a rebellion against David. Citizens in Israel are openly cursing David.

David's life is chaotic and stressful; he has doubts about God's provision for him.

However, in the midst of these circumstances, David turns to the Lord in prayer. He shifts his focus from himself to the King of Kings.

As David shifts his perspective to God, he finds the peace of God. He understands that God is sovereign - God is the King on the throne of the universe.

Consequently, in the midst of an open political rebellion where his life is in jeopardy, David is able to sleep peacefully and find rest in the Lord.

Psalm 3 is a morning psalm. This short psalm describes the strength that David finds in the morning - after a night of rest and after expressing his trust in the Lord through prayer.
