The terrorist shooting in Orlando last week reminded us that evil exists in the world. It also reminded Lowcountry residents of the terrible massacre that occured on June 17, 2015 at Mother Emanuel AME Church on Calhoun Street.

Both events shocked us because of their violent brutalality.

Innocent lives were taken. Survivors were left to mourn those murdered.

These tragic events should lead us to reflect on the circumstances of our lives in light of God's Word. Opening the book of Psalms, we are reminded that despite the horror and violence in our world, God remains faithful and good.

The Psalmist writes, "The LORD is good, his steadfast love endures forever and his faithfulness to all generations" (Psalm 100.5).

While websites and newspapers reveal the depravity of humanity on display through horrific shootings, the pages of Scripture remind us that God is eternally good.

He is good. His love for his people is eternal. His faithfulness to the church knows no limits.

The Word of God reminds us that the triune God is in control of all things - even when it seems like he is silent. Scripture reminds us that God is still in control and we can trust him.

In fact, it is in tragic moments such as Orlando massacre and the Charleston shooting that we should turn to him and reflect on his goodness, love, and faithfulness to his people.
