Psalm 107 reminds us to reflect on the power of God.
"He turns rivers into a desert, springs of water into thirsty ground...He turns a desert into pools of water, a parched land into springs of water" (vs. 33, 35).
The Triune God is sovereign over his creation; he can create an ocean out of a desert and can bring forth fruit from barren fields.
His infinite power should lead us to consider his hand in creation and give thanks for his wondrous works.
Psalm 107 also reminds us to reflect on the loyal love of God.
God's people have often been in distress and despair. They have wandered in the desert, lived in darkness, and rejected the counsel of the Lord (vs. 4, 10, 17).
Yet God is merciful to his people. "They cried to the LORD in their trouble and he delivered them from their distress" (vs. 4, 13, 19, 28).
God redeemed his people because of his loyal love - his commitment to his people. Ultimately, God provided redemption redemption from sin, despair, and death through the sacrifice of his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, on the cross. Redemption for God's people comes not from their good works, but from the perfect work of Jesus Christ to redeem sinful men and women.
"Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the LORD" (vs. 43).
