Jesus Christ did a lot of walking during his ministry.

He walked the hills of Galilee, he walked along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, and he walked the roads of Jerusalem. He was probably in pretty good shape with all of that walking. Further, most of the time Jesus was accompanied by his disciples as he walked from village to village in Galilee. As he walked, he would teach James and Peter and the other disciples as they asked him questions about the Kingdom of God.

However, in Mark 8 we see Jesus Christ asking his disciples a question. Christ asks, "Who do people say that I am?"

They responded by telling Jesus Christ he was a popular guy. Some people thought he was John the Baptist. Some thought he was Elijah returning before the day of the Lord (Malachi 4). Others thought he was another prophet from God.

Then Jesus asks them directly. "Who do you say that I am?"

With boldness, Peter responds, "You are the Christ."

This was a significant answer from Peter. He was affirming that Jesus was the Messiah, the Anointed one sent from God. Peter's bold confession is a turning point in the Gospel of Mark. In the chapters which follow, Jesus Christ will begin to openly declare his mission of redemption. He will begin to set his face towards Calvary and his atoning death for sinners.

Today, his question is important for you to answer. What do you think of Jesus Christ?

Was he a nice guy who walked the hills of Galilee preaching tolerance and kindness? Was he just a moral example for us to follow?

The Bible says he is more than that. Much more. In fact, the Bible says he is the Son of God who came from the Father to die on the cross for your sins. Your salvation from sin and death comes only by turning from sin and placing your faith in him as your only Redeemer. What you believe about Jesus Christ matters; it matters because it determines your relationship with the Triune God and your eternal destiny.
